Puppy Classes

There is nothing more crucial than getting your training right when you dog is a puppy, old dogs certainly can learn new tricks but it’s a hell of a lot easier if they learn what’s what when they are in the stage of life where they are absorbing everything that is going on in the environment.  Armed with knowledge from these puppy classes you will be able to steer the path of your puppy onto that of becoming a well mannered, rounded adult dog which means a far less stressful life for you!

About the Course

The Course runs for 8 weeks, during which you will learn about the developmental stages of your puppy and potential unwanted behaviours that may occur, along with tips on how to handle/prevent them.  These could include nipping, toilet training, jumping up, separation anxiety, crate training and any others that you may have!

We will also be working through some basic life skills including:

  • Focus (paying attention to the owner)

  • Interrupting unwanted behaviour

  • Anticipating behaviour and redirecting

  • Motivation and how to utilise it

  • Marker Training

We will the use the above to teach skills such as:

  • Sit

  • Stay

  • Lie down

  • Recall (coming back when you call!)

  • Taking treats gently

  • Settle (relaxing on their mat)

  • Loose lead walking

  • Socialisation and appropriate play with other puppies

Every session will finish with a short chat covering topics such as mental stimulation, enrichment ideas for the home, public dog walking etiquette, what to do in a dog fight, nutrition and general health, basic dog law, grooming and body language.

The Puppies

We only allow a maximum of 6 puppies in one class to ensure every owner and puppy benefits from one on one trainer time.  To ensure puppies are at similar developmental stages, they need to be aged between 10-20 weeks and have had their vaccinations.  If you have an older dog whom you feel would benefit from going back to basics, please get in touch and we can discuss the best course of action.
